Mini Aussie Puppies in Tennessee — Blue Buckaroo Aussies

Ranch-Raised Mini Australian Shepherds in the Heart of Middle Tennessee

Blue Buckaroo Aussies is a small, family-run Mini Australian Shepherd breeding program located in rural Middle Tennessee — between Nashville and Huntsville, Alabama. We’ve been raising Mini Aussies on our working farm for over 18 years, and we place puppies with families across the United States.

If you’re searching for a Mini Aussie breeder in Tennessee, you’ve found us. This page covers where we’re located, how pickup works, how families get here from across the Southeast and beyond, and what makes our program worth the drive — or the flight.

Where We’re Located

We’re situated in Middle Tennessee — rural farm country, about an hour and a half south of Nashville and roughly an hour and a half north of Huntsville, Alabama. It’s a working farm and our dogs are raised right here on the property surrounded by kids, livestock, and real daily life. This isn’t a kennel operation. It’s our home, and our puppies are raised in it.

We Do Not Ship Puppies

This is one of the non-negotiables in our program. Every family comes to pick up their puppy in person — no exceptions. We feel strongly that the transition from our home to yours should be handled by you directly, not a cargo hold. You’ll meet your puppy, spend time with us, ask every question you have, and leave with a puppy that’s been handed off with care.

We know this means some families travel a significant distance. We think it’s worth it — and based on the feedback we get from families who’ve made the trip, they agree.

Flying In — How It Works

A large number of our families fly in to pick up their puppy — particularly those coming from Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and other states further out. It’s simpler than most people expect. Here’s how it typically works:

1
Fly into Nashville (BNA) or Huntsville (HSV)
Both airports are roughly equidistant from our farm. Nashville has more flight options and direct routes from most major cities. Huntsville is smaller and often easier to navigate. Either works perfectly.
2
Rent a car or grab a rideshare to our farm
The drive from either airport is about an hour and a half through Middle Tennessee countryside. Most families rent a car so they have something comfortable for the puppy on the way back to the airport.
3
Pick up your puppy at the farm
Spend some time with us, meet the parents if available, go over everything you need to know about your puppy’s care, feeding, and first days home. We don’t rush this. You’ll leave feeling confident and prepared.
4
Fly home with your puppy in-cabin
Mini Aussies fit comfortably under the seat in an airline-approved carrier. Most airlines allow small dogs in-cabin for a fee — confirm with your airline ahead of time. We can help you prepare for the flight and recommend the right carrier size for your puppy.

Toy and mini-sized Aussies travel well. At 13–40 lbs our dogs fit the in-cabin requirements for most major airlines. We’ve had families fly in from Florida, California, New York, Texas, and everywhere in between. If you have questions about flying with a puppy we’re happy to walk you through it — we’ve helped a lot of families do it for the first time.

Families Who Drive

Many of our families drive in — particularly from Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas, Kentucky, and other surrounding states. Middle Tennessee is an easy drive from most of the Southeast and sits right along major interstate corridors.

From Approx Drive Time Notes
Nashville, TN ~1.5 hours Closest major city
Huntsville, AL ~1.5 hours Popular fly-in option
Chattanooga, TN ~1.5 hours Easy day trip
Birmingham, AL ~2 hours Easy day trip
Knoxville, TN ~2.5 hours Worth the drive
Atlanta, GA ~3.5 hours Many families make this drive
Charlotte, NC ~6 hours Many families fly instead
Louisville, KY ~3 hours Easy drive through Tennessee

Why Families Choose Blue Buckaroo

There are Mini Aussie breeders in most states. Families come to us from across the country — including states that have local breeders closer to home — because of what we’ve built over 18 years in this breed. Here’s what consistently matters most to the families who choose us:

18+ Years in the Breed

We know this breed deeply — the bloodlines, the health history, the temperament tendencies. That knowledge goes into every breeding decision we make.

Farm Raised, Home Raised

Puppies are born and raised in our home on a working farm. They’re exposed to kids, livestock, noise, and real life from day one — not isolated in a kennel.

Health Tested Parents

All of our adults are genetically health tested. We test for the conditions that matter in this breed — MDR1, HSF4, CEA, PRA, and more — before any breeding takes place.

Temperament First

We breed specifically for calm, people-focused, trainable dogs. Our puppies are known for being easy to live with — not just pretty to look at.

Lifetime Support

We don’t disappear after pickup. Our families hear from us and can reach us years down the road. We’ve built relationships with families we placed puppies with a decade ago.

AKC & ASDR Registered

Our puppies come with proper registration documentation. We’re transparent about our program, our lines, and our practices — no surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly in Tennessee are you located?

We’re in rural Middle Tennessee, between Nashville and Huntsville, Alabama. We share our exact address with confirmed reservation families — not publicly, for the privacy of our farm and dogs.

Can I visit before committing to a puppy?

We don’t do casual drop-in visits — we work by appointment with families who are serious about our program. If you’re genuinely interested in a puppy, reach out and let’s talk first. We’re happy to answer every question you have before you make any commitment.

Which airport is better to fly into — Nashville or Huntsville?

Nashville (BNA) has more routes and direct flights from most cities, so it’s usually the easier option for finding good fares. Huntsville (HSV) is a smaller, less congested airport that some families prefer for the simpler experience. Both work equally well — it comes down to what flights are available from your city.

Do you have puppies available right now?

Availability changes regularly. Check our available puppies page for current litters, or visit our planned litters page to see what’s coming up. We also have an advanced reservation list for families who want to get on our schedule before a litter is born.

Do you place puppies outside of Tennessee?

Yes — we place puppies nationwide. We have families from Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Alabama, Kentucky, and states across the country. As long as you’re willing to make the trip to pick up in person, location is not a barrier.

Can my Mini Aussie fly in-cabin?

Most of our puppies qualify for in-cabin travel on major airlines. Requirements vary by airline — typically the carrier must fit under the seat and the dog plus carrier must be under a certain weight. Our toy and smaller mini puppies fit comfortably. We’ll help you figure out the specifics for your flight when the time comes.
